Celebrating our 2013 Patient Navigation Trainees

2013 Patient Navigation Training The graduates of our September 2013 training came from as far as Hawaii to gain the knowledge and resources to offer their clients holistic navigation through the cancer experience. Among the 23 trainees were nurses, nurse practitioners, oncology social workers, health coaches, integrative practitioners, and lay navigators. The diversity and varied personal and professional experience of this group was invaluable to the training.

The residential training was held September 8-13 at Pearlstone Retreat Center near Baltimore, Maryland. We began each day with yoga—and enjoyed wonderful, healthy meals between experiential and didactic sessions on topics such as Palliative Care, Survivorship Issues, Application of Complementary Therapies, Stress Reduction Techniques, and Patient Communication.

One of our 2013 trainees described the experience this way: “The Smith Center Integrative Navigation Training was transformative in helping me better define my role in supporting people touched by cancer. The training was experiential, didactic, personal, and connective. The interaction with all the other trainees was wonderful, largely due to the environment that the Smith [Center] staff and presenters created for us.”

Below are a few of the photographs of the training and the beautiful faciltiy.

We are pleased to announce our first training of 2014, which will be held February 23-28. We will offer an early bird rate for registration before mid-November. Learn more at www.smithcenter.org/pnt.
