For over a decade Valerie Theberge has been working as a professional artist concentrating on mosaic sculptures and mosaic installations. After graduating from the San Francisco Art Institute, where she received her BFA in painting and drawing, Valerie moved to China to study the Chinese language and Chinese painting. She received a certificate in Chinese painting in 1992.
Her art career took her to Hong Kong where she trained with a British company and specialized in the ancient art of mosaics. While in Hong Kong, Valerie studied Asian culture and obtained her Master’s degree from the University of Hong Kong.
Valerie has worked on large-scale projects in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, India, and the United States. She has done work for both private clients and the public sector creating intricate artwork from an intimate scale to as large as 160 feet. In addition to her commissions she teaches at the National Museum of Women and the Arts, the Smithsonian African Art Museum and has been a lecturer and juror for public art projects nationally. Valerie currently works in her studio located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
